The focuses of this month’s discussion are the:
“O” ring (30-0452-01) on the bottom of any 1000/3000 Disk Holder.
Cap Adapters (150-0001, 150-0008-01)
40 mL VOA vial adapter (160-0001-02)
125 mL Sepratory Funnel (27-0834-01)
Rinse Rods (50-0667)
Gasket on the top of the water in valve (02-0560)
“O” Rings used on the Rinse Rods – (30-0544, bag of 100).

Basically, my problem is this: the instrument seems incapable of eluting the solvent into the collection vial.

Are you keeping up with your annual six month Hydrophilic Solution treatments for your SPE-DEX 4790 or 1000/3000 SPE-DEX instruments?
1. The water sample will not flow down into the disk holder.
2. My water inlet valve may not be opening
3. My water inlet valve is opening, but my sample is not dispensing into the disk holder.
4. My entire collection vessel is filled with the water sample.

this time I will discuss the sensor on the SPE-DEX 1000/3000 Extractor.

This month’s topic of discussion will be the operation of the valves within the SPE-DEX® 1000/3000 extractors. There are several internal valves in the extractors, the solvent to waste valve, the sample collect valve and the water to waste valve.

It’s important to replace these filters to ensure proper operation and protection of the internal solvent delivery valves. This filter not only traps particulates, but also protects the valves as particulates may get trapped within and could lead to improper solvent dispensing even when the extractors are at idle.

If you are experiencing sample overflow of the disk holder then check the sample bottle
adapter for leaks.

When not in use, the check valve ball can stick, preventing the elution of solvents into the
collection vessel. Prior to beginning an extraction, free the Check Valve by using the Check
Valve Tool (PN: 02-0725 for the 1000/3000XL Extractors, or PN: 02-0727 for the 4790
Extractors).

The SPE-DEX® 3000XL Extractor automates EPA Method 1664A and provides a modern alternative to techniques such as liquid-liquid extraction (LLE). In addition to delivering accurate, more consistent results for oil and grease extractions, SPE technology reduces both sample processing times and solvent use.
Using a combination of advanced liquid handling and “Certified for Automation” Pacific® Oil & Grease SPE Disks, the SPE-DEX® 3000XL Extraction System delivers results with the accuracy and consistency laboratories need to comply with EPA Method 1664A & 1664B requirements. With SPE solvent use is reduced by up to 90% when compared to traditional LLE, and sample run times can be less than 30 minutes. The SPE-DEX® 3000XL is a three-station system, and is automated to allow unattended operation which increases the overall productivity of your lab. The SPE-DEX® 3000XL system processes samples directly from their original sample bottles. It automatically delivers all relevant solvents, regulates sample processing and disk drying times, rinses the sample bottle and collects the extract.
SPE methods offer significant advantages over traditional LLE techniques:
